THE SAGA CONTINUES.. By Jacqueline Jung I've been sucked in like everyone else. Instead of sleeping in on a Sunday morning, I woke up at 6am, threw on my running clothes, ran my 6 miles and rushed to the gym to finish my workout. I had to be showered, dressed and ready before 10am. Why? Of course, I had to catch every minute of the Dallas Cowboys game. I've never given one thought to the Cowboys, Eagles or Texans for that matter. But that was before this season, and before the Terrell Owens drama. It's one big soap opera that I can't seem to shake. Yes, I know that I'm being manipulated. Two weeks ago sights of fans burning the #81 jersey in effigy flashed across our television screens. Police and NFL Security shadowed Owens. After the game, headlines blew across the nation, ?McNabb outplays Owens?. Hey, we all knew better. The problem wasn't T.O.; it was Bledsoe and the Cowboys' offensive line. Drew was sacked seven times and threw three interceptions. Reporters tried to press T.O. in order to create a fury against Bledsoe. This, of course, would duplicate the exciting conflict between him and his old QB, Eagles' Donovan McNabb. When T.O. answered that he was ?open? and included phrases such as ?missed opportunities?, the media anxiously tried to connect the responses as an attack on Bledsoe. What was T.O.'s answer? ?Watch the tape?. He wasn't about to fall into their trap. I wish I could say the same for myself. Right when I thought that the controversy was over, and it would be football as usual, headlines reported that T.O. and Wide Receivers' Coach, Todd Haley, were at odds. Apparently T.O. showed up late for practice after complaining of stomach problems and thus a lengthy visit to the bathroom. Haley then continued to berate him for being tardy. A very heated argument ensued between the two. T.O. chocked it up to venting after a disappointing loss to the Eagles. Instead, Haley leaked the confrontation to the press, which infuriated T.O. After all, what goes on in the locker room, is supposed to stay in the locker room. Though, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones maintained that Haley was at fault, fans and gamblers alike continued to place bets as to when T.O. would be ousted from the Cowboys roster, and thus blacklisted from the NFL forever. This would be in spite of his three-year, $25 million contract with a $5 million signing bonus. Sunday, T.O. scored three touchdowns, all in the second half. I couldn't help but notice that he was patting, hugging and smiling at Haley throughout the game. Remember, I didn't miss any of the sideline drama, as I sacrificed my entire Sunday in order to watch this. What will the media dig up with this week? Come on, Terrell Owens makes football a lot more interesting. Otherwise, we will have to endure detailed diagrams of Ben Roethlisberger's appendix and its subsequent removal, like we witnessed during the opening week of this football season. |
